Weekly Wellness Workouts – July 23 (Hope Week 4)

For the final week of Hope Month, we’re going integrate what we’ve learned into the practical application of hope via the WOOP process. WOOP stands for:

  1. Wish
  2. Outcome
  3. Obstacle
  4. Plan

This process brings together all the “GAP” elements of hope (goals, agency, pathays), and provides a framework we can use to create better futures for ourselves.

First, we have to identify a goal we have for ourselves, and use that concept to create concrete outcomes we will use to track progress toward that goal. Then, we can dig into the “pathways” a little more by brainstorming obstacles that may hinder our progress, and then planning how we will respond to and overcome these obstacles.

There’s no end to the amount of effort and detail you can bring to this process, so put as much into it as you need to feel confident about your ability to move forward.

Weekly Wellness Workouts – July 16 (Hope Week 3)

For the third week of Hope Month, we’re going to use the GAP model to assist another person in the development of hope. As a reminder GAP stands for

  1. Goals
  2. Agency
  3. Pathways


This project combines the concept of Hope with the benefits of Gifted Kindness to create a powerful, meaningful experience.

The Gifted Hope Project


The concept of the project is quite simple:

  1. First, identify the person you’d like to work with
  2. Next,work with them to identify a Goal they’ve had but have not been pursuing
  3. Then, identify Pathways to realizing this goal
  4. Finally, identify the strengths and resources the both of you can apply to help make this goal a reality (Agency)

There’s strength in numbers, and being there to support someone in a goal can sometimes make all the difference.

Weekly Wellness Workouts – July 9 (Hope Week 2)

For the second week of Hope Month, we’re going to explore the three components of Hope in a little more detail. The three components are:

  1. The wish/goal itself
  2. Pathways
  3. Agency

To do this, we’re going to have one on-going exercise, and three discrete exercises.

To explore the Agency component of Hope, this week’s on-going exercise is the Significant Strengths exercise. At the end of each day, take a second to identify the most significant or meaningful activity or event from that day. Then, take some time to explore why it was significant or meaningful to you. What strengths did you or others use? What does this teach you about what you value?

Wellness Workouts – Week of July 2 (Hope Focus Part 1)

This week kicks off Hope Month with a few exercises about building positive, but realistic, views of the future. We’re going to have one on-going exercise, and four discrete exercises.

On-going Exercise: Silver Linings

You’re on-going exercise for the week is the Silver Lining exercise. It’s easy to focus on the negative aspects of an outcome (we’re naturally inclined to do this), but it takes practice to learn to spot the positives as well. Any time you find yourself ruminating on a negative outcome this week, take a second to write down the outcome. Then, find the silver lining, present or future. Did it already result in a positive outcome as well? How might it be turned into a positive outcome in the future? (See our previous post on Silver Linings here)
