Taking Stock

The Taking Stock exercise is a great way to build the positive aspects of our perspective. It’s easy to get down on ourselves when we think about all the obstacles we have in the way of our goals. It’s much harder, but at least as important, to remember the resources we have going for us as well.

Identify a short-term goal in your life. Then, spend some time thinking of all the skills and resources you have that will help you reach your goal. If it helps, think of yourself first as a blank slate, with no experience or abilities. Then, work from the ground up, identifying all the things you’ve learned over the years, and all the connections you’ve built, that empower you to reach your objectives.
